What is a Maverick?

  • Someone who can shape history with their ingenuity, ambition, and adventurous spirit

  • A unique, inspired, determined risk-taker, forward-looking, creative, and eager for change character

Maverick Ideas 

  • Creating project-based lessons

    • Be founded in standards - use great assessment strategies

    • Authentic to community  - organic to students 

    • Explicit scaffolds for 21st Century learners 

    • Chunking and planning! - break projects down in to parts and stay on track 

    • Be upfront with rubrics and what they will be assessed on 

      • Students can help build it

  • Puppetry

    • 1 - designing and building 

    • 2 - growth mindset: continue to improve concepts and puppets 

    • 3 - videos and concepts are sharable (no-copy right) 

    • 4 - use a puppets in a hook (very entertaining) 

    • 5 - writing is different and allows them to do almost anything and have TON of fun 

    • 6 - low risk, high reward 

    • Have materials pre made to speed up puppet making time
