Foundational Knowledge in Reading

  • 44 phonemes in english  - students must know these in order to decode words

    • Includes all 44 phonemes, their spellings, and token words (and picture of the token word) ​

  • Katie Garner's Secret Stories - makes vowels superheroes so students will learn and retain long and short vowel sounds 

    • Includes a script for each vowel, common vowel blends, and common consonant blends like "th" and "sh"​

Foundational Knowledge in Writing 

  • Oral language and storytelling is a the root of all writing

    • When students develop their oral language skills, the writing process becomes much easier (think about their own stories first and then write it down)
