Engaging in Career-Long Learning

Engaging in career-long learning is vital in being an effective teacher. Society and technology is always changing! In order to keep lessons fun and relatable, teachers need to be constantly exploring new strategies to use in the classroom. Also, researching findings contribute to maintaining an optimal learning environment. Teachers must use reliable research and professional development to ensure that their teaching is at the most effective level for their students needs.

Here is a pdf of a journal I did about the importance for the connection between students and the community. This demonstrates both my abilities as a reflective practitioner and my use of research based claims to better my teaching skills.
Here is a pdf of a Smart Notebook presentation I did about the phases of the Moon. This was my first experience using Smart Notebook to create lesson, and I loved using this program! It is critical for teachers to continue their knowledge of technology, as it is useful to create engaging lessons and can be used as an assessment tool. See my technology skills page for more programs/apps that are great for classroom use.
In my third year practicum, I gained many new teaching techniques and tools. One of my favorite tech tools is called jeopardy lab. Jared Schlenker showed me this website and I immediately fell in love with it! Students work in teams to achieve a common goal, and it can be played in multiple different ways to allow for flexibility and different applications.
In my forth year practicum, I was placed at a partially French immersion school . I taught in an english classroom, but was given the opportunity to be Bonhomme Carnaval, during our Carnaval celebrations. Bonhomme made guest appearances at the school, in the school news show, and in our local news. This was a great experience, as I was able to learn about Carnaval and French Canadien traditions by actually being apart of it. Pictured is a clipping from our local news of Bonhomme interacting with some grade 3/4 students.
